Dr. MAHDI ALSTON
Dr. Mahdi Alston, is an organizational leadership strategist with nearly two decades of experience in education, nonprofit leadership, and organizational development. His work focuses on leadership development, strategic execution, and building systems that strengthen organizational performance.
Dr. Alston currently serves as Operations Strategist at Innovative Consulting Group, where he leads strategic operations, organizational development initiatives, and business development efforts that help organizations align people, processes, and strategy. His consulting work focuses on leadership development, operational efficiency, and data-informed decision making that drives measurable results.
Prior to his work in consulting, Dr. Alston served in senior leadership roles across educational and nonprofit organizations. As Associate Executive Director with the YMCA, he oversaw branch operations, strategic planning initiatives, staff development, and community partnerships while supporting financial growth and program development aligned with organizational mission and community impact.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Alston served as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Educational Outreach at SMBD Consultants, where he led organizational development initiatives, leadership training programs, and strategic planning efforts. In this role, he supervised teams, implemented leadership development systems, and helped shape organizational structures that supported long-term sustainability and professional growth.
Dr. Alston’s leadership experience also includes educational administration and workforce development. As Associate Executive Director and Assistant Principal at Philadelphia O.I.C. Workforce Academy, he helped lead the development of an alternative high school focused on workforce readiness and leadership development while overseeing operations, staff development, and strategic program initiatives.
He began his career in youth development and community leadership roles with the Boy Scouts of America, where he helped develop educational programs, build community partnerships, and expand outreach initiatives that served thousands of youth and volunteers.
Dr. Alston holds a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, along with a Master of Science in Organizational Development and Leadership and a Master of Public Administration from Bellevue University. His doctoral research explored student perceptions and the influence of blended learning in alternative school environments.
Through his leadership work, research, and writing, Dr. Alston explores how leaders translate vision into execution while building organizational cultures that foster accountability, learning, and long-term growth.
